And Wylye not indeed…

An opportunity to host good friends on the river today was an alternative way of enjoying the festive Jubilee weekend away from the partying hustle & bustle that otherwise ensued locally.

A refined Royal sausage breakfast to start the day: Warren, myself, Richard and Lord John of Hoban

Warren, Jim, Richard, John

Warren plays mum today and sets fire to his barbeque, reminiscing of his days as an arsonist in a previous life and ever hopeful of being a pyro-technician in a future one… gawd help us!

Warren

The fish are to be fed promptly at 11.30… thus the dun has arrived

Mayfly

followed by a rare hatch of the Yellow May………… Duck!

Richard fishing the lower canopy bathed in glorious sunshine

John in the middle reaches looks a little less than conspicuous as he’s sprinkled with a light shower

John Hoban

Super angler Warren in the upper canopy tempts a wild beauty to his new spinney fly pattern

Warren McCarthy

The mayfly are more intense as the day and temperatures progress… fish are keenly on the fin

Mayfly

Richard on a generic Mayfly pattern touches yet another wild inhabitant

Richard Fieldhouse

It’s a hatch of 10ft #2 weights so I drift in between stealing a cast at every opportunity whilst the guys are otherwise pre-occupied… eating… drinking… spotting rising fish etc.

We end a glorious day mesmerised by a spinner fall high above the river…

Mayfly

ruddy smart these mayfly! (ma’am)

Enjoy the remainder of the extra Bank Holiday weekend if you’re able, especially if fishing.
