The primary aim of the tuition is to increase your fly fishing & fly casting practical ability as well as your theoretical knowledge. By seeking to do this you will be much more prepared to deal with the many varied challenges presented to you in your quest during a seasons fly fishing. "It's far more important to achieve this than just to ensure you catch a few fish"

Fly fishing for Beginners (Part or Full day)

Over head fly cast

This introduction will suit both beginners, and those recently introduced to the sport. It will give you a solid foundation upon which to progress, plus the confidence and ability to apply the basic fly fishing skills and casting techniques.

Although the course is tailored specifically for you, a typical example may include:

  • Setting up a balanced outfit for your intended location
    (Fly rod, reel, fly line, knots & leaders etc..)
  • Roll casting techniques and knowing when to use them
    (Including techniques for wind/adverse conditions)
  • How to complete and apply the overhead cast correctly
    (Including techniques for wind/adverse conditions)
  • Fly life and selecting the correct imitation "Match the hatch"
  • Watercraft - where to find likely fish holding areas in lakes and rivers
  • Catch and Release (Safely returning the fish once caught)
  • All your tackle is provided FREE for the duration of the tuition

Beginners tuition will be conducted on appropriate Stillwater or Reservoir depending on conditions, locations, and the types of water you're likely to have access too.

Fly fishing for Improvers (Part or Full day)

The Improvers tuition is aimed at the fly fisher who, through experience, has a firm understanding of the two most fundamental casts within fly fishing. The Overhead and the Roll cast. From there, a more varied range of casts can be taught to improve accuracy and the overall presentation, along with more advanced fishing skills.

Although the course is tailored specifically for you, a typical example may include:

  • Review of balanced outfit and improving line & leader set up
  • Overhead cast - Single & double hauling to improve distance
  • Roll cast techniques - Jump Roll, hauling techniques
  • Directional change casts - Single and double Speys
  • Dry fly presentations for drag free drifts: mends, reach, curve & slack line casts
  • River casting techniques (Confined/Obstructed locations)

The above advanced casts can be taught at almost any location. A number of these casting techniques however are best suited to certain conditions and specific locations (These will be discussed and covered prior to the tuition)

Improvers tuition will be conducted on River, Stillwater or Reservoir depending on conditions, locations, and the types of water you're likely to have access too.

Spiral Jump Roll Cast

Tailored and designed specifically for you, bespoke 2, 3 or 4 day extended courses are available to offer a more detailed insight into the skills of both fly fishing and fly casting. You'll have the opportunity to enjoy and experience a variety of stillwater and river locations fishing for either trout or winter grayling, depending on the season.
